Welcome to my blog!
My name is Rachel Martin Harlow. I’m a rhetorician, a writer, a mom, a colleague, a professor, and a bunch of other things. This blog started as a project for a class I taught and has expanded into a place for thinking aloud.
You might be wondering about the name. In 2010 I published an academic article in which I argued that technical communicators in academe are homeless, borrowing space in English programs, engineering programs, communication programs–all over the place–and that this homelessness is a good thing. We tech comm folks do our work as many of the classical Greek Sophists did: moving from place to place, embedding ourselves where we can do some good. Our place is the province of the Sophists.
